Pedro Pascal praises trans sister Lux: ‘One of the most powerful people’ he’s ever known

Pedro Pascal is opening up about his relationship with his younger sister, Lux Pascal.

The Chilean-born actor, who has taken Hollywood by storm with starring roles in HBO’s “The Last of Us” and “The Mandalorian” on Disney+, is praising Lux as “one of the most powerful” he’s ever known.

Lux, who’s trans, shared her identity with the world for the first time in early 2021. At the time, Pedro celebrated her decision in a sweet Instagram post, sharing the cover of a Chilean magazine about his sister, and captioning it, “Mi hermana, mi corazón, nuestra Lux,” which translates to “my sister, my heart, our Lux.”

His admiration only seems to have grown with time. In a new interview with Esquire, the 48-year-old actor spoke again about his love and admiration for Lux, 30.

The interview took place in New York, during a particularly grim time for the transgender community in the U.S. A record number of states have approved legislation to ban gender-affirming care for minors and to bar student-athletes from school sports consistent with their gender identity.

When asked what this moment might feel like for Lux, her big brother said he wouldn’t want to speak on her behalf, but “she is and has always been one of the most powerful people and personalities I’ve ever known,” he added. “My protective side is lethal, but I need her more than she needs me.”

Lux, who studies acting at the prestigious Julliard School in New York City, told Pedro about her transition via FaceTime, during COVID-19 lockdown days.

“He asked me how I felt, because I remember that he was worried,” she told the Chilean magazine Revista Ya. After she said she was happy, he told her, “Perfect, this is incredible.”

Pedro was “an important part” of her transition, she added: “He’s also an artist and has served as a guide for me. He was one of the first people to gift me the tools that started shaping my identity.”
