Peekskill To Fill Housing Authority Board Vacancy

PEEKSKILL, NY — The Peekskill Housing Authority is looking to fill a vacancy on its board of commissioners.

The board is composed of five commissioners appointed by the city manager, each for a five-year term. Two tenant commissioners are elected by residents of the Housing Authority for terms of two years, according to a news release on the city's website.

Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m., except for August and December. Meetings are currently held via Zoom because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Officials said that under normal circumstances, meetings alternate between community rooms at Dunbar Height and Bohlmann Towers.

Duties of commissioners include oversight of the annual budget process and the authority's professional staff, policy and strategy decision making and addressing the long-term interests of organizations and its residents.

The mission of the housing authority is to provide decent, safe and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income residents of the city of Peekskill. The authority has 273 apartments in three developments.

Interested candidates should email a letter of interest and a resume by Feb. 14 to City Manager Andy Stewart at astewart@cityofpeekskill.com or call the city manager's office for more information at 914-734-4246.
