Peekskill man indicted on murder, arson charges in stepfather's stabbing death

A Peekskill man has been indicted in connection with the stabbing death of his stepfather earlier this year.

Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah said Shane Gilleo, 30, was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and third-degree arson, both felonies, by a Westchester County grand jury.

Gilleo was arraigned in Westchester County Court on Thursday and is due back on Nov. 21. He is being held without bail in the county jail.

According to Rocah and a criminal complaint, Gilleo allegedly stabbed his stepfather, Edward Reeves, 48, in the chest and abdomen with a knife around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 14 on North James Street in Peekskill. Reeves was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he died.

At approximately 11:20 a.m. the same day, Gilleo allegedly started three separate fires on the second floor of a two-family house on Grant Avenue in Peekskill, where a relative lived.

Police said at the time that Gilleo had barricaded himself inside that home, and they were trying to negotiate with him to surrender. While they were negotiating, police noticed smoke from the fires, and Gilleo exited the house by breaking a window on the second floor.

Peekskill police arrested Gilleo a short time afterward, with assistance from Westchester County police.

Gilleo's attorney, Anthony Michael Giordano, declined to make a comment on his client's behalf at this time.
