New Orleans rookie standout Zion Williamson said he plans to play Tuesday when the Pelicans host the Portland Trail Blazers.
Williamson missed Saturday's game against the Indiana Pacers due to a sprained left ankle but returned to practice on Monday. He told reporters afterward that he will be back in the lineup.
Williamson suffered the injury against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, and the team suggested that he sit against the Pacers.
"They just told me longevity, the bigger picture, more long-term," Williamson said. "They've been doing this for a long time and I'm just learning. I'm just following their guidance."
The situation involving All-Star forward Brandon Ingram isn't so clear-cut. He also is nursing a sprained ankle that occurred against the Bulls.
Ingram sat out Monday's practice and there hasn't yet been a decision regarding if he can play against Portland.
"I'm just taking it day by day and doing whatever I can on the basketball floor and off the basketball floor for the healing process," Ingram told reporters.
Ingram, who is averaging 24.9 points in 47 games, told reporters he plans to play in the All-Star on Sunday. But he also would like to return sooner, either versus Portland or against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.
Williamson is averaging 19.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in eight games.
