Pella boys soccer advance to state

May 26—PELLA — The Dutch are heading back to state. Pella hosted Fort Madison in the substate finals on Wednesday night in what was a rematch of last year's thriller that was decided in penalty kicks. This time around Pella left little doubt as they controlled the game and were able to pick up a 3-0 win to punch their ticket.

Fort Madison came out firing early but Pella was able to weather the storm on a rainy night and come back to start creating chances on their own in the second part of the opening half.

Pella would break through in the 27th minute with Austin Bone finding the back of the net off the assist from Levi Van Dusseldorp. Nine minutes later, the Dutch would grow their lead to 2-0 with Isaac Semini scoring off a corner kick.

Van Dusseldorp would then put the cherry on top in the second half with Pella's third goal of the game.

Pella (17-2) advances to the 2A state quarterfinals where they have earned the top seed and will face No. 8 Spencer (13-4) on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines.
