Penalties cost Nashville Predators again in loss against Winnipeg Jets

Mikael Granlund wasted little time putting the Nashville Predators ahead of the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.

The forward scored 3:26 into the first period of the Central Division matchup at Bridgestone Arena. Matt Duchene's 23rd goal less than three minutes later doubled the home team's lead in what turned out to be a 5-2 victory for the visitors.

Mark Scheifele cut the Jets' deficit in half with 12:16 left in the first during a four-on-four. Kyle Connor tied the score 2-2 nearly 10 minutes into the second.

Predators rookie Tanner Jeannot dropped gloves with Adam Lowry late in the first, not long after Jeannot was called for boarding.

Predators defenseman Mark Borowiecki was assessed a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct for elbowing nearly halfway through the third period. Almost immediately after that, the Jets' Blake Wheeler scored for the lead.

The Jets weren't done taking advantage of the major, either. Pierre-Luc Dubois added another right after that. Wheeler's empty-net goal closed the scoring.

The Predators were coming off a penalty-plagued defeat against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.

The Predators are 28-16-4, while the Jets are 20-17-8.
