CARTHAGE — It was a great summer evening for strains of “rollin’ on the river” and “looking out my back door.” Pendulum: A Tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival filled The Legacy Theater in Carthage with solid music from the 1960s.

Pendulum started Saturday night’s show with early CCR tunes including their first hit “Susy Q” and carried on to the later psychedelic 70s sound of “I Put a Spell on You.” They ticked the boxes of all the favorites in between for audience members who were constantly bouncing in their seats.

Lead singer Brian Rause recreates the sound of lead singer, John Fogerty, in the music that blends the genres of pop, blues and country. He was joined by drummer Rocco Gaudiano, and singer/guitarists Denny Bondra and Rudy Velosky, all from Pennsylvania.

The big screens on each side of the stage enhanced the show with video, especially during songs that focused on the Vietnam war era such as “Run Through the Jungle” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain?”

The band paid tribute to John Fogerty with songs from his solo career. Since Fogerty loved to add some “oldies” to his shows, Pendulum had a segment, ”Creedence Plays the Classics,” featuring songs from the 1950s and 19560s: “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” “Mary Lou,” and “Good Golly, Miss Molly.”

Fans waited all night to hear “Proud Mary,” which was the last featured tune; they were not disappointed. After the standing ovation, Pendulum added not one, but two encore songs. First was “Bad Moon Rising.”

Then drummer Rocco closed the night stating: “We don’t leave the stage until we salute our veterans one more time. Here’s “Fortunate Son.”
