Penguins vs. Lightning, game 61: lines, notes

The Pittsburgh Penguins have won three consecutive games for the first time since running off seven in a row during the first half of December.

They appear to be as healthy as they’ve been in a quite a while, and should be gaining some confidence from how they’ve rebounded after a blowout loss to Edmonton a week ago.

That’s partly because the Penguins have two lopsided victories over the Lightning in 2022-23, including a 7-3 decision at PPG Paints Arena Sunday, which means Tampa Bay should not be lacking for motivation in their final meeting of the regular season.

And then there is Tampa Bay’s roster, which looks a lot like the one that has gone to each of the past three Stanley Cup finals, winning two of them. When a team is built around the likes of Andrei Vasilevskiy, Brayden Point, Nikita Kucherov, Victor Hedman and Steven Stamkos, it has the potential to overwhelm, even embarrass, almost any opponent.
