Peninsula Health District building will be closed Friday after vehicle crashes into it

A vehicle crashed into the Peninsula Health District building Thursday, prompting a closure on Friday to assess damages.

According to Larry Hill, Eastern Region public information officer for the Virginia Department of Health, a driver struck the building about 3 p.m. It is located at 416 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News. The crash injured the driver and a health department employee who was inside the building. Both were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center.

At this time, the extent of their injuries is unknown, Hill said.

“The health department recognizes this is a traumatic event for our employees and are working with employee assistance,” Hill said in an email.

At this time, there is no estimated damage to the building, but the Peninsula Health District closed Thursday after the crash, and it will remain closed Friday for further inspection of the building.
