MISHAWAKA — The Penn-Harris-Madison school board unanimously approved a new contract Monday night, bringing salary increases for many of the school corporation's staff.

The 7% raise matches the increase announced in October for teachers, coaches and extracurricular activities leaders in the district.

Employees covered under the agreement announced Monday include custodians, education support professionals, exceptional education professionals, food service, kids club, service technicians and maintenance, fooddistributors, and administrators.

School bus drivers are not covered, as they have one year remaining on a two-year contract.

In response to a shortage of exceptional education professionals, who work with students with special needs, the district agreed to increase those workers' hours from 29 to 32.5 per week. Thus, they will now be eligible for medical, dental and vision insurance. In fact, all P-H-M employees will now be eligible for vision benefits.

The new contract increases the annual clothing allowance for service technicians and maintenance employees from $115 to $325.

All personnel currently eligible for the insurance program will see a 5% increase to their premium contribution levels.
