Penn State football recruiting: Nittany Lions lose one and gain one

It’s a new week of Penn State football and they will be facing their toughest opponent yet in Ohio State.

They have also had a busy week of recruiting, including one commitment and one that unfortunately re-opened his recruiting process back up.

Our first recruit won’t be the first one that Penn State has brought in through family ties.

He is a three-star tight end in Joey Schlaffer and he joins the class of 2023 for the Nittany Lions. Schlaffer had several offers across the Big Ten before committing to play for James Franklin and Penn State.

We have seen a flurry of tight ends go through Happy Valley and be very productive. Some have even gone on to have successful careers in the NFL like Mike Gesicki and Pat Freiermuth, who is just getting his professional career started.

As mentioned, Schlaffer has family ties to Happy Valley. He is the younger brother Mical Menet, who was a four-year offensive lineman at Penn State. He went on to get drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, but was unfortunately was cut from the regular season roster.

Seeing the success of Penn State tight ends, this is a very promising add for the Nittany Lions.

Even though Penn State gained another recruit, they also lost one in the process from the 2022 class.

Defensive back Jordan Allen recently de-committed from Penn State and the Louisiana native visited Ole Miss over the weekend as they took on LSU.

Ole Miss had a busy weekend of recruits, headlined by quarterback Arch Manning.

Penn State is potentially going to be losing a lot of their secondary and Allen will be a crucial piece of their defense.

Penn State still has a strong recruiting class coming in. Even though Allen could be a big loss to the Nittany Lions, they still brought in a talented three-star tight end in Schlaffer.
