Penn State receives commitment from another 4-star running back

Jul. 17—Penn State landed its second four-star running back in the Class of 2022 when Kaytron Allen of IMG Academy in Florida committed to the Nittany Lions on Friday.

Allen and Gov. Mifflin's Nick Singleton, who committed earlier this month, are expected to give Penn State a powerful 1-2 combination at running back.

The 5-11, 220-pound Allen, a native of Richmond, Va., chose Penn State over Florida, Georgia, Florida State and Michigan State. He's rated the No. 118 overall prospect and the No. 6 running back in the Class of 2022 by Rivals. 247 Sports rates him as the No. 151 overall prospect and the No. 13 running back.

Rivals rates the 6-0, 210-pound Singleton as the No. 124 overall prospect and the No. 8 running back. 247 Sports rates him as the No. 43 overall prospect and the No. 3 running back.

Allen rushed for 515 yards and nine touchdowns last year at IMG in a seven-game season shortened because of the pandemic, and ran for 1,097 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2019.

"It's going to be very interesting," said Adam Gorney, national recruiting director for Rivals. "Where Allen can live between the tackles and gain big yards that way, Singleton has the speed to get outside and race down the sideline.

"He (Singleton) has tremendous balance and is very tough to bring down. He's always falling forward and doesn't dance too much to escape the tackle. He provides a nice counter-punch to Allen, who will do most of his work between the tackles."

Allen became the seventh player in the Class of 2022 to commit to Penn State this month. His commitment helped move the Nittany Lions to No. 2 in the 247 Sports team rankings for 2022. They remain No. 3 in the Rivals rankings.

About an hour after Allen announced his commitment, four-star offensive lineman Gunnar Givens of Daleville, Va., committed to Virginia Tech, choosing the Hokies over Penn State.

Penn State could add two more commitments to its 2022 class in the next week.

Five-star defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton of the McDonogh School in Maryland, the nation's No. 11 overall prospect according to Rivals, is expected to announce his decision July 22.

Three-star defensive back Jordan Allen of Lafayette, La., is expected to announce his decision this weekend.
