Here are the Penn State signees, commits who made the Pa. Football Writers’ HS All-State teams
The Pa. Football Writers’ All-State teams were recently announced for high school football, and — unsurprisingly — a number of future Penn State Nittany Lions earned accolades, including two players of the year.
Class of 2024’s Quinton Martin, a four-star running back out of Belle Vernon, already signed his letter of intent and was named the Class 3A Player of the Year. Class of 2025 commit Tiqwai Hayes, a three-star RB from Aliquippa, was named Class 4A Co-Player of the Year with Bishop McDevitt QB Stone Saunders, who is committed to Kentucky.
Martin finished his senior campaign with 1,202 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on just 117 carries. (He also had 54 catches for another 753 yards.) Hayes’ junior season was punctuated with 2,159 rushing yards on 253 carries, and he’s been on a fixture on the all-state team since he was a freshman.
The full all-state teams are listed below. But here’s a closer look at the five other Nittany Lions to earn all-state honors, all from the Class of 2024:
Caleb Brewer (Wyomissing, Class 3A): The 295-pound lineman was a force on both sides of the ball his senior season. And, while he earned an all-state spot for his play on defense, he’ll most likely play at Penn State along the offensive line — probably on the interior. He is a 3-star prospect and was named Berks County Lineman of the Year by Mike Drago Sports.
Cooper Cousins (McDowell, Class 6A): At 6-foot-6 and 305 pounds, Cousins has the size — and versatility, since he can play inside or outside — to see some early playing time in Happy Valley. He blocked for District 10’s leading passer in Blayze Myers (2,737 yards) and helped his high school offense average 39 points per game. He is widely regarded as a 4-star prospect, and three recruiting services ranked him among the nation’s top 125 recruits.
Peter Gonzalez (Central Catholic, Class 6A): The 6-foot-2 receiver is one of three receivers in Penn State’s Class of 2024. The big-play magnet had 47 catches for 1,081 yards as a senior, good for an average of 23 yards per reception. (He had 107 catches over three seasons.) He is listed as a 3-star wideout.
Anthony Speca (Central Catholic, Class 6A): The 6-foot-2 linebacker finished his high school career as Central Catholic’s all-time leading tackler with more than 300 stops. As a senior, he had 89 tackles and 17 tackles for loss. He’s seen by most recruiting services as a 3-star prospect, although Rivals lists him as a 4-star player.
Kenneth Woseley (Imhotep Charter, Class 5A): The 5-foot-11 cornerback finished the season with six interceptions, one of which he returned for a score. The versatile athlete also served as kicker for his team, going 63-of-68 on PATs and 4-of-6 on field goals. He is regarded as a 3-star prospect.
Since 2009, Pennsylvania sports writers who cover high school athletics have overseen the all-state process, which was started by The Associated Press. Players are nominated in all six classifications; Classes A, 2A and 3A were released Thursday while Classes 4A, 5A and 6A were released Friday.
