Penn State starts April with recruiting commitment from four-star CB

Penn State is starting the new month on the right foot on the recruiting trail. On Saturday morning, four-star cornerback Jon Mitchell announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions, giving Penn State another new addition to its Class of 2024 recruiting efforts.

Mitchell announced his commitment to Penn State on his Twitter account. The Jacksonville recruit is a major recruiting victory for the Nittany Lions as Mitchell committed to Penn State over offers from Florida State and Miami, both in-state programs on the rise. Mitchell made the announcement while in State College for a weekend visit with the program.

Mitchell is a 6-0, 177-pound cornerback who will be a nice addition to the defensive backfield that has become a steady unit for Penn State defenses in recent years. The secondary has seen some key players go on to be drafted in the NFL with players like Tariq Castro-Fields and Jaquan Brisker last season and Joey Porter Jr. expected to be a first-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft. Penn State’s Kalen King is a returning star at cornerback and a Walter Camp preseason first-team All-American.

Mitchell is rated as a four-star recruit by both On3 and 247Sports, and Rivals rates him as a three-star recruit. On3 ranks Mitchell as one of the top 100 players in the country and 247Sports includes him in their Top247 rankings. Clearly, Penn State is scoring a nice commitment out of the football-rich state of Florida.

Mitchell is the sixth player in Penn State’s current Class of 2024 lineup, and the second cornerback in the recruiting class along with Kenneth Woseley from Philadelphia.
