Penn State a three-score underdog at Ohio State in Week 9

After two striaght losses in Big Ten play, the outlook for the 2021 Penn State Nittany Lions on the football field has taken a drastic turn for the worst. Getting back on the right track certainly will not be easy this weekend as Penn State hits the road as a big underdog against Ohio State.

According to the early line on this week’s game from Tipico, Penn State is a 17.5-point underdog against the Buckeyes, who continue to be blowing out their opponents on a weekly basis. Given the offensive woes of Penn State in their most recent game, a nine-overtime loss to Illinois that netted just 18 points by the Nittany Lions, it is easy to see why the line would be so wide in favor of the Buckeyes, who have been flat-out dominant on offense ever since their loss to Oregon in Week 2.

The point total for the game is also considerably high, suggesting the oddsmakers think Ohio State has the potential to blow the doors off a Penn State defense that hasn’t given up many points this season. Penn State has only allowed more than 20 points in a game once this season (Iowa) but the point spread and an over/under of 59.5 suggests Ohio State is expected to easily exceed that mark against Penn State’s defense.

Initial odds from Tipico:

  • Penn State +17.5 (-112)

  • Ohio State -17.5 (-108)

  • Penn State moneyline: +520

  • Ohio State moneyline: -800

  • Over 59.5 points: -105

  • Under 59.5 points: -115
