Penn State wrestling has added a new commitment from the transfer portal. The Nittany Lions picked up a commitment from 133-pounder Aaron Nagao Tuesday night.

Nagao spent his freshman season at Minnesota and finished as an All-American at the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships, finishing in fifth place.

He is the third transfer portal addition for Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson so far this offseason. Cal Poly 197-pounder Bernie Truax Jr. committed to the Nittany Lions, but is expected to wrestle at 184 pounds while current 184-pounder Aaron Brooks — a three-time national champion — is expected to move up to 197 pounds. Mitch Mesenbrink joined the program from Cal Baptist and could wrestle at 157 or 165 pounds.

The addition of Nagao helps bolster a lineup that will once again be favored to win a national title and has seven wrestlers who were All-Americans last season.

Beau Bartlett (141 pounds), Shayne Van Ness (149 pounds), Levi Haines (157 pounds), Carter Starocci (174 pounds), Greg Kerkvliet (285 pounds), Brooks and Truax. Starocci and Brooks won individual titles, while Haines and Kerkvliet both finished in second in their weight classes.

Nagao will replace Roman Bravo-Young, who finished second at 133 pounds at the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
