Penn Yan man charged with manslaughter in connection to fatal drug overdose

A Yates County man faces two felony charges, including manslaughter, in connection to a fatal drug overdose last year.

Schuyler County Sheriff's Office deputies Wednesday arrested Ted E. Miller, 65, of Penn Yan on a Superior Court warrant.

A Schuyler County Court indictment alleges that, in March 2022, Miller unlawfully sold a narcotic drug — authorities did not specify which — to Kimberly Owens, causing her death. Owens' age and town of residence were not released.

Miller was charged with second-degree manslaughter and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was arraigned Thursday in Schuyler County Court.

Bail was set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 insurance bond and $150,000 partially secured surety bond.

Miller's next court date was not immediately available.

Officials said Miller's arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the sheriff's department and the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office.
