PennDOT to address possible removal of I-90 bridge during Thursday meeting in Girard

GIRARD — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will discuss options to remove or replace a bridge over Interstate 90 in Girard Township during a public meeting in Girard on Thursday.

The meeting also will address the continuing reconstruction of the interstate in western Erie County.

PennDOT is considering removing the Beckman Road bridge over the highway. The bridge was built with the interstate in 1959 and is used by about 125 vehicles daily, according to PennDOT. It's rated in fair condition.

The department began a feasibility study to consider options for the bridge in April.

Opened this summer: New bridge, roundabouts at Interstate 90 Girard/Platea interchange

PennDOT also will share plans to reconstruct about 7½ miles of the interstate, roughly between the Girard and Sterrettania interchanges, in 2027.

Thursday's public meeting will be held in the Rice Avenue Middle School cafeteria, 1100 Rice Ave., Girard, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The presentation will be posted online after the meeting.
