PennDOT putting restrictions in place for upcoming winter storm

(WHTM) – PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) are urging drivers to use caution during the upcoming storm and are putting speed and vehicle restrictions in place.

Pre-treatment is occurring, according to PennDOT, but drivers may still see icy spots because the salt placed on the pavement doesn’t resolve all risks. This is especially true for bridges and highway ramps.

The following restrictions will go into place on Friday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. and be lifted when the conditions become safer:

Tier 1

  • PA Turnpike (I-76) from New Stanton (Exit 75) to Carlisle (Exit 226)

  • Interstate 81 from the Maryland border to I-78

  • I-83, entire length

  • I-99, entire length

During severe weather, PennDOT wants to ensure the interstates remain open by using these restrictions.
