Pennfield, Marshall among area schools in first AP state hoop rankings

The first Associated Press boys and girls basketball rankings of the season were released this week, with several area teams listed among the best in the state.

Pennfield, who advanced to the state finals last year, is ranked No. 7 in Division 2 in boys basketball as the Panthers head into Tuesday night action with a 7-1 record.

Marshall is tied with Pennfield for first place in the Interstate 8 Conference and is ranked just below the Panthers, sitting at No. 8 in Division 2 at 7-1.

Also earning at top 10 ranking is Colon and Bellevue, coming in at No. 7 and No. 9, respectively, in Division 4 in the boys standings.

Olivet was listed as an honorable mention in Division 2.

In girls basketball, Athens is 9-1 on the year and is ranked No. 6 in Division 4.

Among honorable mention teams, undefeated Lakeview enters the first poll in Division 1 and Olivet is among the teams getting votes in Division 2.
