Penn's Christianson, Preston take top NIC swim honors

It was a clean sweep for Penn in claiming top honors in girls swimming from the Northern Indiana Conference for the 2022-23 campaign.

Lily Christianson earned NIC MVP honors for the Kingsmen. The star set league records in winning both the 200 IM and 100 backstroke events at the league meet. Christianson, who also swam on a pair of championship relay teams, now owns eight NIC records overall.

Penn coach Jess Preston, who guided his team to the regular season, league meet and overall championships earned NIC Coach of the Year accolades.

Penn wins Northern Indiana Conference boys swimming title Saturday in Elkhart

The first-team All-NIC list included Avery Woods, Anika Guenther, Lily Christianson and Tory Temeles of Penn in the 200 medley relay. Also earning first-team honors were Guenther (200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke), Christianson (200 IM and 100 backstroke), Emma Tulacz of New Prairie (50 freestyle), Arriana Beckham of Penn (diving), Celeste Hollis of Riley (100 fly), Jordan Koszyk of Penn (100 freestyle), Claire Dobrydney of Saint Joseph (500 freestyle), Temeles, Guenther, Avery Woods and Koszyk of Penn (200 free relay) and Christianson, Woods, Koszyk and Ebba Fox of Penn (400 free relay).

Second-team selections included Addy Szakaly, Elisa Nerenberg, Willa Kricheff and Addison Skube of Adams (200 medley relay), Claire Dobrydney of Saint Joseph (200 freestyle), Szakaly of Adams (200 IM, 100 backstroke), Celeste Hollis of Riley (50 freestyle), Kailey Corban of Adams (diving), Libby Marion of Penn (100 fly), Emma Tulacz of New Prairie (100 fly), Avery Woods of Penn (500 freestyle), Landi Newcomb, Alaina Brison, McKenzie Waltz and Emma Tulacz of New Prairie (200 free relay), Emma Hayes of Penn (100 breaststroke) and Jackie Dobyrdney, Cece Farrell, Anna Pruitt and Claire Dobrydney of Saint Joseph (400 free relay).

Honorable mention choices were Alaina Brison, Ava Lux, Emma Tulacz and Landi Newcomb of New Prairie (200 medley relay), along with Jordan Koszyk of Penn (200 free), Elisa Nerenberg of Adams (200 IM), Tory Temeles of Penn (50 free), Avery Curtis of Adams (diving), Willa Kricheff of Adams (100 fly, 100 breaststroke), Chloe Whitmer of Riley (100 free), Isabel Leader of Penn (500 free), Jackie Dobrydney, Addison Farner, Cece Farrell and Claire Dobrydney of Saint Joseph (200 free relay), Vanessa Domalewski of Penn (100 backstroke) and Addy Szakaly, Addison Skube, Elisa Nerenberg and Willa Kricheff of Adams (400 free relay).

Penn went 10-0 in dual meets during the regular season. Adams was runner-up at 9-1, followed by Riley (8-2), New Prairie (7-3), Elkhart (6-4), Saint Joseph (5-5), Bremen (4-6), Marian (3-7), Clay (2-8), Jimtown (1-9) and Washington (0-10).

Penn won the NIC Meet title with 639 points. Adams was second with 399 points, followed by Riley (358), New Prairie (297), Saint Joseph (269), Elkhart (174), Bremen (88), Marian (81), Clay (2) and Jimtown (2).

Penn was the overall league champion with Adams finishing in second place. Riley was third, followed by Elkhart, Saint Joseph, Bremen, Marian, Clay, Jimtown and Washington.
