Pennsauken man ID'd as hit-run victim, fatal accidents reported in three other SJ towns

PENNSAUKEN - Police have identified a township man as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident here.

Louis M Mateo, 39. was struck around 1 a.m. Saturday near Haddonfield Road and Marion Avenue, according to Pennsauken police.

Authorities have also announced the deaths of three people in a pair of accidents Sunday in Cherry Hill and Springfield. Two people were also injured in the Springfield accident.

A fourth accident in Lawnside took the life of a pedestrian on Thursday, Jan. 13.

In the Cherry Hill crash, township resident Kevin Hendricks, 46, was ejected from an SUV that left the right side of Interstate 295 around 9:20 p.m., according to New Jersey State Police.

The vehicle struck a guardrail, then went down an embankment, fatally injuring Hendricks.

The crash occurred at milepost 34.9 on the southbound highway.

In Springfield, a driver and one of his three passengers died in a two-vehicle crash around 4:20 a.m. on County Route 628, also known as Hedding-Jacksonville Road.

A car driven by Tyshaun Carter, 24 of Mount Holly, struck the rear of a box truck that made a left turn into its path from a driveway, according to a preliminary investigation by New Jersey State Police.

The car then hit a utility pole and a culvert, police said.

The accident killed Carter and a rear-seat passenger, Christopher Blackmon, 53, of Browns Mills. Both were ejected from the vehicle, police said.

Two passengers — Furyous Thomas, 27, of Browns Mills and Dangelo Hilton, 25, of Pennsauken — had moderate injuries.

The accident occurred at milepost 3.3 on the southbound highway.

All of the accidents remain under investigation, police said Tuesday.

In the Lawnside accident, a vehicle struck a Camden woman, 49-year-old Deanna Lewis, on the White Horse Pike at 5:30 a.m.

"The driver remained on the scene (and) no criminal activity is suspected at this time," the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday.

No arrests have been made in the Pennsauken accident "at this time," township police said Tuesday.

Investigators have released a photo of a sedan in connection with the hit-and-run.
