Pennsylvania American to replace 10,000 feet of main in Scranton

Sep. 27—Pennsylvania American Water will install more than 10,000 feet of ductile-iron water main in the city as part of a $2.8 million project, the utility said Tuesday.

The project includes replacing smaller-diameter cast-iron pipe, some dating back to 1893, with new 8-inch mains, the company said.

The work will take place along Emmett, Luzerne, Fellows, West Elm, Green and Schlager streets; Railroad, Fourth, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th and 21st avenues, and Moir Court, Pennsylvania American said.

Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., the company said. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction.

The utility said it expects to complete installation, including connecting all customer service lines to the new mains, by the end of December, with final restoration and paving to start next spring.
