Pennsylvania county’s technology infrastructure suffers “critical incident”

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – Washington County in western Pennsylvania suffered a “critical incident, rendering significant segments of the technology infrastructure in the County to be inaccessible and/or inoperable.”

The incident was reported in an emergency petition filed with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

The petition says on January 24 at 10 a.m. the county turned off access to the Court’s network and servers due to the “critical incident.”

Because of this, the court does not have access to services and programs such as e-mail, network folders, digital recording systems, jury management systems, printers, and the Internet.

The county is also said to be prohibiting the use of computers until “a third-party company can “clear” use of the machine.”

Web access to the Common Pleas Case Management System has been negatively impacted by the restriction from using County computers. The District Attorney also reported that they are unable to access internal case management systems.

As of January 28, there was “insufficient progress” to fix the issue and it’s possible the judicial district “will suffer some degree of data loss.”

On Tuesday morning the county’s court website was inaccessible, however, the county’s own website was running.

The cause and source of the issue remain unclear at this time.
