Pennsylvania Department of Revenue launches online tool to assist property tax/rent rebate applicants

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — The Department of Revenue has launched a new lookup tool to help applicants of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program (PTRR) find in-person assistance in their communities.

The tool was developed by the Commonwealth Office of Digital Experience, also known as CODE PA. It will provide an easy way for older Pennsylvanians and people with disabilities who benefit from the PTRR program to enter their zip code and find a location nearby where someone can help them file their rebate application.

“As Governor Shapiro has said, there is a tremendous network of people who work together every year to make sure that PTRR applications are filed accurately with our agency. There is no wrong door — we want people to find help where it is most convenient for them. The new lookup tool on our website will help everyone find that assistance,” said Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne. “With the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program expanding to nearly 175,000 additional Pennsylvanians thanks to Governor Shapiro’s efforts, we are working to make sure that we provide as much support as we can to the people who are counting on their rebates.”

The maximum rebate for seniors rises from $650 to $1,000. The law also increases the income cap for renters and homeowners to $45,000 a year and ties the cap to increases in the cost of living so seniors don’t lose out if their Social Security payments increase.

Pennsylvania expands property tax/rent rebate program

“The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program provides a lifeline to hundreds of thousands of older Pennsylvanians and people with disabilities. Our goal with developing the new lookup tool was to make sure these people have an easy way to find the face-to-face customer support that they may need,” said Bry Pardoe, Executive Director of CODE PA. “This successful project is another example that Governor Shapiro is committed to making it easier for Pennsylvanians to connect with the vital resources provided by the Commonwealth.”

The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older.  The deadline to apply for a rebate is on June 30, 2024.
