Bucks county roads are under repair. Here's where, why and what you need to know

Drivers and pedestrians throughout Bucks County will soon have to contend with lane closures and traffic diversions as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation embarks on a several projects to address conditions on more than 40 highways throughout the state.

Here's what you need to know:

What PennDOT work is scheduled work in Bedminster, Lower Southampton, Middletown and Wrightstown?

PennDOT work crews will begin a mass project to repair roadways throughout Bucks County, which will repair roads and fill in potholes and address other concerns. The projects will cause lane closures and delays.

In a project expected to last through May, PennDOT crews repair deteriorated pavements on Easton Road in Plumstead and Bedminster; on West Maple Avenue which runs through Lower Southampton and Middleton; and on Cherry Lane in Wrightstown.

Motorists should expect restricted travel lanes on these roads.

PennDOT has allocated 1,821 tons of asphalt for this project and warns drivers of intermittent lane closures and slowdowns as crews will be moving as they work along these roads.

PennDOT travel restrictions in Bucks County

Additionally, there will be other travel restrictions for Bucks County drivers as PennDOT implements its line striping operation. This project will continue through April 21.

All roadwork projects will begin at 9 a.m. and continue through 3 p.m.

In Hilltown, there will be PennDOT-related periodic lane closures on Church Road at the intersection with Keystone Drive; on Diamond Street at the intersection with Fairhill Road; on Callowhill Road at the intersection with Creamery Road; and on Baringer Avenue at the intersection with Rickerts Road.

Similarly, there will be a flagged lane closure through Friday, April 28, on Old Lincoln Highway between Maple Avenue and the southbound U.S. 1 on ramp in Middletown for milling and paving.

This daily lane closure will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.

Road repair in Bucks County coincides with National Work Zone Awareness Week

PennDOT reported 1,293 work zone crashes which resulted in 14 fatalities in 2022, and with hundreds of crew members working throughout Bucks County and the state, transportations officials have stressed the importance of work zone safety, for both motorist and PennDOT worker.

Furthermore, PennDOT reported 171 reported intrusions in PennDOT work zones. Of those, 13 resulted in injuries to PennDOT employees, 57 caused damage to PennDOT equipment or vehicles, while 101 such incidents did not result in injury or damage but had the potential to do so.

"Safety is PennDOT’s most important priority,” said PennDOT Executive Deputy Secretary Cheryl Moon-Sirianni.“We implement many safety measures in our work zones, for the safety of both our workers and motorists, but we need drivers to work with us to ensure work zones are safe for everyone. Slow down and never drive distracted, especially in work zones where roadway conditions can change every day.

"Only by working together can we keep everyone safe."
