Pennsylvania Game Commission recruiting game wardens

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — The Pennsylvania Game Commission has announced that the application window for the 37th cadet class to become game wardens is now open.

“The entire training school is 44 weeks long,” recruiting specialist with the Game Commission Tyler Strohecker said. “The nice thing is once you’re seated in the class, that’s when your appointment starts. You will be guaranteed a position once you graduate from the training class.”

The application window will be open until March 7. The commission stated that cadets will report for training in March 2025 and will then graduate in Feb. 2026.

“We’ve now streamlined the process for those who want to serve the Commonwealth as a game warden and would like to see more individuals take advantage of this opportunity,” said Game Commission Executive Director Bryan Burhans. “If applicants are willing to work hard to protect our wildlife resources, and possess the qualities we value, college credits will not stand between them and a rewarding career with the Game Commission,” he added.

The application does not require 60 college credits and applications must have a high school diploma or GED. They also must either have completed Hunter-Trapper Education or do so by March 7.

“It’s an amazing job and I’ve been lucky enough to get it. It was a hard process for sure to get in,” game warden Trevor Shauf said.
