The race for Pennsylvania governor stopped by the ‘Steel City.’ It was the first major event for Republican State Sen. Doug Mastriano in the area.

GOP heavyweight Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited to stump for Mastriano. It’s part of a tour the governor is on to bump up some numbers for Republican candidates nationwide.

DeSantis is expected by many to run for president and is often considered the favorite behind former President Donald Trump.

The help comes with a decline in poll numbers in Mastriano’s favor. A poll from Fox News from July showed Attorney General Josh Shapiro up by 10 points.

Both DeSantis and Mastriano have taken criticism in recent days. Some religious leaders have essentially called Mastriano an anti-Semite and DeSantis one by association.

The goal today was to fire up the Republican base in Pennsylvania and ignite the base that showed up for Trump in previous elections.
