Pensacola bicyclist killed, another seriously injured in hit-and-run on Sorrento Road

Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a 2005 Toyota Highlander who is believed to be responsible for a hit and run Wednesday night that killed one person and injured another. It is possible the driver is female. The SUV has Alabama tag 5A07H3U and has windshield and grill damage.

A Pensacola bicyclist was killed and another was seriously injured following a hit-and-run crash Wednesday evening on Sorrento Road in Escambia County.

The bicyclists, a 44-year-old man and 40-year-old man, both of Pensacola, were traveling westbound on Sorrento Road near the edge of the roadway at approximately 7:05 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. It was then that a Toyota Highlander, also traveling westbound on Sorrento Road, struck them.

The Highlander then fled the scene of the crash. The 44-year-old bicyclist was pronounced deceased on the scene, and the 40-year-old was transported to Baptist Hospital with serious injuries.

The Highlander was later located in Lillian, Alabama. Charges are pending further criminal investigation.
