Pensacola Lightning to host benefit game for Ladarius Clardy Scholarship Fund

At 5 p.m. Dec. 5, Pensacola's Amateur Basketball Association team, the Pensacola Lightning, will be hosting its game for a good cause.

With the Mobile Jesters in town for a matchup, the Lightning will be donating part of the game proceeds to the Ladarius Clardy Scholarship Fund.

Ladarius "LD" Clardy, Pine Forest High School football's all-time leading passer, was killed July 1 while driving in Pensacola. Fifty rounds were fired at the 18-year-old's car, killing Clardy and injuring his former Pine Forest teammate in the passenger seat in what authorities have said was a case of mistaken identity.

Since then, five suspects have been arrested and indicted of charges of first-degree premeditated murder, attempted first-degree premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree premeditated murder.

The Ladarius Clardy Scholarship Fund will honor Clardy's dedication to academics by providing two current students each with $5,000 to help them fulfill their dreams of attending college.

The Pensacola Lightning game will be held at Pensacola State College's Milton campus.
