What has already been a dreamlike year for Pensacola State College softball player Jenna Trim continues to delve deeper into an ethereal state.

In late April, the utility player was named to the Panhandle Conference First Team for the second time in her career and followed that up with a Second Team selection by the Florida College System Activities Association.

Now after playing for Team Australia at the Canada Cup International Championship alongside PSC teammate and fellow Australian Georgia Hood, Trim has further added to the lore of her sophomore season.

With her eligibility up at the junior college ranks, Trim has chosen to extend her playing career at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

"Talking to Coach Dickson (Nicole Dickson, UNM head coach), the program seems like a really good fit for me," Trim said. "Coming from Pensacola, a very family-oriented team, it seems like the same kind of vibes that they (UNM) are trying to build there and I got to talk to some of the girls and they seemed lovely as well."

Trim became connected to the Lobos through a variety of different contacts.

PSC head coach Lyndsey Angus was an assistant coach for New Mexico from 2010-2015 before taking over the Lady Pirates program. Her assistant coach Jennifer McKibben was an assistant alongside her in Albuquerque, and did the recruiting legwork for Trim this time around.

When making calls across the country to inquire about teams' interest in Trim, McKibben made sure to find a place where the fit would be suitable. "Coach Kib" just happened to find the ideal situation for Trim at a place she used to call home.

"I pitch but I also like playing the field and I hit as well," Trim said. "Being able to do all three things is what I was looking for and that's what she (Dickson) is hopefully going to be able to help me do."

In Trim's final season of JUCO action, Trim posted a .384 batting average to go along with six homeruns, 45 RBIs and 32 runs scored. Her 16 doubles ranked ninth in Region 8 play.

In the field, her .950 fielding percentage came on 218 chances while she went 4-3 in the pitcher's circle with a 2.97 ERA.

Her versatility was a catalyst for the Lady Pirates winning back-to-back Panhandle Conference Championships and earning consecutive regional postseason berths.

As for the Lobos, they concluded the 2022 season with a 26-27 mark, failing to qualify for postseason play. However, that mark is promising as it was one of their better years in recent memory and proved that Dickson will have plenty to work with in Dickson's upcoming inaugural season.

"It is Coach Dickson's first year there and there's a lot of talent plus she's coming in from a conference-winning team where she's from," Trim said. "It'll definitely be a good new start (for New Mexico) with her coaching and the talent behind the team. We could be a really good team and turn it around."

The last time UNM had a winning record was in the 2014-15 season where they were 29-25.

But as Trim alluded to, the sun seems to be on the horizon.

Before joining UNM, Dickson was the head coach at Stephen F. Austin, with the Ladyjacks surpassing 30 wins in four of five seasons. Through her six seasons, Dickson compiled a 169-123 record and was named the 2021 Southland Conference Coach of the Year.

During her time, SFA had 20 all-conference selections, as well as two hitter of the year and pitcher of the year selections, a player of the year and a freshman of the year.
