A Pensacola woman was charged with two counts of felony child neglect with great bodily harm after the Department of Children and Families determined her twins were allegedly malnourished and had skull fractures.

Jamekia Sharda Portis, 30, was booked into Escambia County Jail without bond Thursday following an investigation by DCF ranging from June to October 2021.

According to a heavily redacted affidavit, the children had been treated at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital for malnourishment and had skull fractures, which authorities said most likely were due to being dropped or rolling off a surface while inadequately supervised.

The report said the children were severely underweight and had sustained several fractures at least one week prior to examination, which they determined due to no swelling being present.

Portis’ first appearance was scheduled for Friday.
