From Pentatonix to a CBGB tribute, it’s a merry mix for the holidays this week in CT arts

This week’s arts picks are burning off the final holiday theater shows, a strange assortment that ranges from “A Million Dollar Quartet Christmas” to a “100% Made-Up Christmas Musical” to the a cappella (plus vocal sound effects) Pentatonix Christmas tour.

Felly holds a show in his home state, at Toad’s Place, and there is a tribute to the New Haven-born pop duo the Carpenters at Mohegan Sun.

Here are some of the top things to do and see this week in Connecticut arts.

CTGB Night!

FTC Warehouse, 70 Sanford St., Fairfield

Dave Schneider, a longtime icon of the Connecticut music scene thanks to his antics in the hockey-themed band The Zambonis, is hosting a special local tribute to the legendary New York club CBGB. Among the bands the club fostered were Patti Smith Group, The Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, Television and The Dead Boys. The married, Connecticut-residing Talking Heads rhythm section of Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth are the special guests. Other participants in this “CT”GB celebration include Mates Of State, Lavender Social Club, Liz Wendelbo of Xeno & Oaklander, John Pioli, Chris Cavaliere, Kenny Owens, Alex Swift Egan Frantz, Matt Rhone, Tarquin Katis and of course The Zambonis. Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. at the Fairfield Theatre Company Warehouse space in Fairfield. $20. fairfieldtheatre.org.

Liz Callaway

Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, 305 Great Neck Road, Waterford.

Thanks to its annual summer Cabaret Conference which lets both up-and-coming and well-established cabaret artists develop their shows, the O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford has connections to some of the greatest talents in that singular performance genre. The center has been holding a winter concert series, which ends Dec. 18 with one of New York’s top cabaret act, singer/songwriter/Broadway star and raconteuse Liz Callaway. Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. $30 and $40. theoneill.org/wintercab22.

‘Hark! The Harold Angels Sing: A 100% Made-Up Christmas Musical’

Sea Tea Comedy Theater, 15 Asylum St., Hartford

Sea Tea Improv is good at making stuff up. This week, some of its members are making up an entire Christmas musical. ‘Tis the season with traditional Christmas musicals happening this month at the Goodspeed Opera House, Seven Angels Theatre and elsewhere. Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. at Sea Tea Comedy Theater. $10. seateaimprov.com.

Songs of Solidarity

Seven Angels Theater, 1 Plank Rd., Waterbury

Local activist Leah Juliett has organized a benefit concert for the Colorado Healing Fund, helping those impacted by the Club Q shooting in Colorado Springs last month. The performers include Jimmy Donohue, Eric Gomez, Elena Conn, Jessica Pescosolido, Anthony DeLuco, Jack Saleeby, Brían Nguyen, Carrie Ashton and Eric Beltrami. Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. at Seven Angels Theater in Waterbury. $20. 7atheatre.org.

‘I’ll Take New Haven’

Mark Twain House & Museum, 351 Farmington Ave., Hartford

Lary Bloom, the former editor of the Hartford Courant’s old Sunday magazine section for 20 years, moved to New Haven some years ago with a purpose. Rather than slowing down or closing himself off, he wanted to live his retirement years to their fullest. He wrote essays about the experience (many of them fueled by walking his dog), published many in The New Haven Independent and has now collected them in a book, “I’ll Take New Haven.” Bloom discusses the book in a virtual presentation on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. via the Mark Twain House website. Free, but registration is required at marktwainhouse.org.

Felly

Toad’s Place, 300 York St., New Haven

The Connecticut-based rapper/singer/songwriter Felly is “Home for the Holidays,” the title of his Dec. 22 concert at Toad’s Place. The Trumbull native released a new album, “Bad Radio,” this month. Opening acts are Gyyps and Sol. $30. toadsplace.com.

Pentatonix Christmas Tour

Mohegan Sun Arena, 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd., Uncasville

The Texas-rooted a cappella quintet Pentatonix has been around for over a decade now. Of the dozen albums the group has released, half are Christmas records. So it’s not surprising to see Pentatonix on a Christmas tour, stopping Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena. $59-$250. mohegansun.com.

‘Million Dollar Quartet Christmas’

Shubert Theater, 247 College St., New Haven

The long-running off-Broadway hit “Million Dollar Quartet” is based on an actual impromptu jam session with Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins at Sun Studios in Memphis in 1956. Since this roots-rock summit meeting occurred in December, creating a holiday-themed sequel is not much of a stretch. The national tour of “Million Dollar Quartet Christmas” comes to New Haven’s Shubert Theater for one performance, Dec. 22 at 8 p.m. $39-$79. shubert.com.

Merry Christmas Darling: Carpenters’ Christmas

Mohegan Sun Wolf Den. 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd., Unvasville

Richard and Karen Carpenter may be associated with sunny California, but they were born in New Haven and lived there until they were 17 and 13 respectively. That should make the tribute concert “Merry Christmas Darling: Carpenters’ Christmas” especially appealing when it plays the state on Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den. Free. mohegansun.com.
