People of all ages enjoy Ultimate Play Day in Pittsburgh

An event held in Pittsburgh gave people of all ages a chance to play like kids again.

The “Ultimate Play Day” held in Lower McKinley Park ran from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. It was hosted by Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative, which partnered with Trying Together, CitiParks and ZeroFossil.

More than 28 vendors gathered in the park to host playful activities and provide refreshments.

Visitors could enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, basketball or soccer if they were feeling athletic. People who wanted to use their imagination could participate in dramatic play with costumes. Oversized takes on classic games such as Connect 4 and Jenga were also available.

Organizers wanted people who visited to celebrate playfulness and leave with a better awareness of the benefits of play for everyone.

“I think it really talks to the transformative power of play and how important play is for development for kids, but also for adults, to just have a good time,” said Adam Zaren, assistant director of Playful Pittsburgh Collaborative.
