There are plenty of things we’re glad we had left in the ‘90s, including grunge clothing, dark lip liner, and crimped hair. Feeling the nostalgia yet? We thought we also left those bowl haircuts in our childhoods, but, alas, people are going to their hair salon and asking for this look.

Charlize Theron might be to blame for this blast from the past since she revealed her bowl cut for Fast & Furious 9 earlier this month. Now it seems that men and women everywhere are sporting the nostalgic haircut in a more modern take.

The “bowl cut” name comes from how the style looks. It literally appears that someone place a bowl upside down on someone’s head and cut along the edge.

When I was in the first grade, I had a crush on a boy named Ryan. I don’t remember anything about him besides that he had a bowl haircut. One day, I told him that he had a bowl haircut — I wasn’t making fun of him, although looking back, maybe I was? — and he told our teacher on me. Oh, young love! Anyway, Ryan and every other boy who was between the ages of 4 and 13 during the ‘90s might want to bring back the haircut they once rocked, because it’s back in style.
