People for Life heading to 50th March for Life in D.C., local march next week

People for Life, a social welfare anti-abortion group in Erie County, is heading to the 50th annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., taking place on Friday.

People for Life has organized a bus trip to the March for Life every year since the first March on Jan. 22, 1974.

They will be taking a full chartered bus of people, including 10 students from Gannon University and a group of 11 students from St. George Catholic School.

Erie March for Life to take place Jan. 28

Following the march in D.C., People for Life is hosting the annual March for Life in Erie on Jan. 28.

This year's Erie March for Life coincides with the 50th anniversary year of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, which established a nationwide right to abortion. Last year, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, the court ruled that the constitution does no confer a right to abortion, overruling Roe and giving states greater regulatory power.

The march is expected to take place in downtown Erie and begin at 11 a.m. It should conclude by 12:30 p.m. For information leading up to the Erie march, visit the People for Life Facebook page, or its website peopleforlife.org.
