The Peoria area's top performances from Week 4 of the high school football season

Each week, the Journal Star will take a look at the top-performing teams and players from weekend games across the Peoria area.

Players from Eureka, Peoria High and Pekin lead our list for Week 4:

Justis Bachman and Jake Morin, Eureka

The pair hooked up for a pair of scores nearly four minutes apart as the Hornets rolled to a 54-0 win over Heart of Illinois rival Fieldcrest. Bachman caught a 44 and 47 TDs as part of a 34-point first quarter. Along with throwing those two TDs, Morin scored on an 11-yard for the Class 3A eighth-ranked Hornets.

Declan Duley, El-Paso Gridley

The recent University of Illinois commit showed off his leg with a pair of field goals and a pair of long punts (37.5-yard average) to help the Titans remain unbeaten with a 13-8 win over Deer Creek-Mackinaw. Duley hit field goals of 20 and 37 yards in the first half as EP-G (4-0) built a 13-0 lead. Dax Gentes (148 rushing yards on 30 carries) added a touchdown for EP-G, which made one final defensive stand — stopping Dee-Mack (0-4) inside the 15 in the last two minutes.

Greg Burnside, Richwoods

The quarterback played cool and confident in leading Richwoods to a 48-35 win over Peoria Notre Dame. Burnside guided the offense over the Irish and snapped a 16-game losing streak. He finished with 112 yards on 5-for-9 passing with a TD. He added nine carries for 79 rushing and found the end zone on a 69-yard QB keeper.

Teegan Davis and Noah LaPorte, Princeton

The quarterback-wide receiver combined for three TDs and a school-record 206 yards as the Tigers beat Mendota, 70-21. Princeton, ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, scored seven, second-quarter TDs including five by Davis. He ran for a pair of scores, threw for a pair more and also returned a 42-yard interception for a TD. He threw for 316 passing yard and five TDs.

Kaden Harnett, Metamora

The quarterback accounted for 177 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Redbirds to a 38-21 win over Morton in a Mid-Illini Conference game Friday night at Malone Field. Harnett ran for 141 yards and three TDs for Metamora (2-2, 1-1), including scoring runs of 40 and 66 yards.

Carl Whitaker, Morton

The Potters running back stayed hot with another big game, running for 224 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries for Morton (2-2, 1-1) in a 38-21 loss to Metamora. Whitaker now has surpassed the 200-yard mark in back-to-back games after his 215-yard performance last week against Canton. He has 634 yards this season.

High school football Week 4: Scores around the Peoria area

Bo Benassi, Pekin

The receiver was part of an offensive outburst Friday as the state-ranked Dragons beat Washington 49-28 in a key Mid-Illini Conference matchup at Memorial Stadium. Benassi had 161 yards receiving and a TD on three catches for the Dragons, ranked No. 6 statewide in Class 7A. Pekin's backfield also shined as Tanner Sprecher ran for 133 yards and three TDs, while Kanye Tyler added 149 yards and two scores.

Malachi Washington, Peoria High

The Lions running back ran for 252 yards and four touchdowns on 43 carries in a 64-30 Big 12 Conference victory against Normal Community at Peoria Stadium. Peoria High, ranked No. 6 statewide in Class 5A, moved to 4-0. Last week, the senior rushed for 300 yards on 36 carries.

Peoria Notre Dame backfield

With a trio of backs in Liam Ludolph, Jack Hanley and Jerrimiah Flores, the Irish were able to rush for 333 yards despite the 48-35 loss to Richwoods. Ludolph led the attack with 156 yards on 20 carries and a TD. Flores found pay dirt twice, amassing 95 yards on 11 carries. Hanley chipped in 91 yards and a third-quarter score.

LaShawn Wallace, Canton

The running back ran for 290 yards and three touchdowns to lead the host Little Giants to their first victory of the season, stopping the two-game win streak of East Peoria, 41-0, in a Mid-Illini Conference game.

Jake Stewart, Washington

The senior quarterback had a hand in all four of the Panthers' touchdowns in a 49-28 loss to Pekin. Stewart ran for a first-half score and threw for three in the second half as Washington's rally fell short. Stewart was 11-for-20 with 171 yards passing, with two scoring throws to Seth Carbaugh and another to Garrett Cox. Stewart added 28 yards rushing on seven carries.

Graham Glover, Dunlap

The senior receiver had at least two touchdowns to help lead the Eagles to a 41-0 victory over Limestone on Friday night. At least one of Glover's scores came from quarterback Johnny Bargen, who threw his first varsity TD to help Dunlap to the Mid-Illini Conference shutout win.

Cory Wysinger, Richwoods

The senior running back hauled in a 61-yard touchdown as Richwoods snapped a 10-game losing streak to Peoria Notre Dame, 48-35. Wysinger, son of Illinois Central College men's basketball coach Tony Wysinger, had 150 yards from scrimmage, catching two balls for 63 yards and rushing five times for 87 yards highlighted by a 74-yard TD run.

The Stark County run game

The Rebels (3-1) ran for 391 yards on the way to a 31-22 victory over Elmwood/Brimfield (3-1). Leading the way were running backs Luke Rewerts (181 yards, 3 TDs), Matthew Henry (116 yards, TD) and Nolan Orwig (93 yards, TD). The offensive line was Colby Stotler, Tanner Price, Ethan Baxter, Owen Hess and Cole Merriman.
