Peoria High, Brimfield girls both No. 1 in first Illinois high school basketball poll
Peoria High is the No. 1-ranked high school girls basketball team in Class 3A following the release of first state rankings by The Associated Press on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions (5-0) were one of four Peoria-area teams ranked in the top 10. Morton was second, Metamora came in at No. 6 and Peoria Notre Dame was ninth.
Washington and Galesburg were both among those receiving votes.

Brimfield received three first-place votes to garner the No. 1 ranking in Class 1A.The Indians are 6-0 on the season and are joined in the top 5 by Prairieland Conference foe Havana, which comes at No. 5.
Abingdon-Avon is eighth, while Lewistown received votes.
Eureka was the lone Class 2A team ranked from the Peoria area. Monmouth-Roseville, Fieldcrest and Princeton all received votes.
Winnebago is top-ranked in 2A, while Hersey is No. 1 in Class 4A.
PND boys ranked No. 3 in 3A
Peoria Notre Dame is off to a 3-0 start is the third-ranked 3A boys basketball team. The Irish, who host Richwoods on Friday night, are ranked behind Country Club Hills Hillcrest and top-rated Chicago Simeon.
No Peoria-area teams are ranked in 4A where Glenbard West is No. 1.
In 2A, Macomb checks in at No. 5. The Bombers are on a 20-game win streak dating back to the pandemic-shorten spring season. Chicago Orr is the top-ranked 2A team.

El Paso-Gridley was among those 2A teams also receiving votes.
Peoria Christian, which won the Peoria Heights Thanksgiving Tournament, is ranked No. 4 in 1A. The Chargers (4-0) are off to their best start since 2014.
Yorkville Christian is first among 1A teams. Midland and Monmouth United both received votes.
