Peoria native heads west from the NCAA transfer portal

Adam Miller is headed west.

The former Manual and University of Illinois basketball player announced Monday he will transfer to Arizona State of the Pac-12 Conference. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 11.5 points in 33 games last season with LSU of the Southeast Conference.

Arizona State finished 23-13 last season and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Sun Devils are coached by former Duke all-America point guard Bobby Hurley, who just finished his eighth season.

Miller, 21, began his college career at Illinois, averaging 8.3 points in 29 games his freshman season in 2020-21. He committed to Illinois from Chicago Morgan Park, where he played his final three seasons of high school basketball and earned Illinois Mr. Basketball. He played at Manual his freshman season.

After his freshman season in Champaign, Miller played for the United States in the 2021 FIBA Under-19 World Cup in Latvia. He then transferred to LSU after fielding offers from programs like Kentucky and Michigan. He missed his sophomore season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

This was Miller's third trip into the NCAA transfer portal; he removed his name last season and returned to LSU. On Monday, Miller took to Twitter to promise this will be the last time.

"Last time that portal will have ace in it I promise," Miller wrote.
