Have the perfect cowboy hat in mind? Build your own at new Folsom historic district store

A custom cowboy hat business has saddled up in Folsom.

Shantelle and Kenny Girard, both 32, opened Rancher Hat Bar in January. It started as a mobile hat-making trailer until they opened their first brick and mortar store on Saturday. Now, customers can design their own hat at 306 Riley St. in the historic district.

The store is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Customers can choose their own hat for about $70 to $95 and accessories between $5 and $20, according to the website.

“We have some really fun clothes, accessories and boots and stuff like that for people to buy as well,” Shantelle Girard said.

She said there is a sale going on right now where a customer can receive 10% off a customized hat if they show a ticket for the Stagecoach Festival or “really any country concert.”

Shantelle Girard is from Arizona while her husband, Kenny, is from Folsom. They said they plan on expanding to Arizona by trailer first but are working with commercial real estate agents on opening a physical location, too.

“I think that us coming to this (Folsom) location is going to bring a whole other atmosphere and bring a little old school western back to Sacramento, which is really cool,” Girard said. “I love the pine trees rather than all the cactus.”

This Saturday, the Girards said they are hosting a Stagecoach party from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for customers to purchase hats before the country music festival that runs April 28 to April 30. There will be cookies, snacks and drinks.

“It’s an experience,” Kenny Girard said. “You get to choose your hat and reflect your personality. You come in here and get your head to toe outfit.”
