Canton girls soccer player voted Journal Star high school athlete of the week

Chloe Bartlett of the Canton girls soccer team was voted as the Journal Star athlete of the week.

The senior — who received 767 of the 2,385 votes — tallied a hat trick in 7-0 victory over Peoria High on Wednesday. Bartlett got the scoring going off an assist from Vanessa Coker, then scored on a dish by Hannah Severt. Her scoring was wrapped up with an unassisted goal for a 3-0 lead.

The poll closed at noon Friday. Information about the other nominees is below. If you have a nominee for the honor, email us at sports@pjstar.com or tag us on Twitter @pjstarsports. Last week, McKenna Shilevinatz of the Richwoods girls soccer team was named the JS athlete of the week.

Austin Wiegand, Eureka baseball

Wiegand tossed a perfect game as part of a 4-0 week for the Hornets. He struck out six in a 15-0, four-inning victory over Colfax Ridgeview on Friday. On Saturday, Wiegand was a part of 44 total runs in a doubleheader sweep of Streator Woodland. He hit two homers and drove in nine as part of a 3-for-3 day. His week started last Monday with a three-RBI triple in a 10-0 win over Downs Tri-Valley at Dozer Park. Wiegand also signed to play baseball at Carl Sandburg College on Wednesday.

Kierra Johnson, Brimfield/Elmwood softball

Johnson went deep twice in an epic 11-inning marathon win over Illinois Valley Central on Saturday. Her two home runs were responsible for Brimfield/Elmwood's first two runs in the 5-2 nonconference victory. She now has three homers on the season.

Scott Anderson, Peoria Notre Dame boys tennis

The Irish senior No. 1 singles player worked around the weather to get two matches in last week, earning victories over Normal Community and Richwoods. Anderson is 5-1 on the season, his only loss coming against 2022 state champion Nicholas Patrick of Rock Island Alleman.

Isaiah Hill, Elmwood/Brimfield boys track and field

Hill's two victories helped host Elmwood edge out Peoria Christian, 118-112 for the Inter-County Athletic Conference title last Tuesday. The junior ran the 400-meter dash in 52.04 seconds, winning by 1.69 seconds. He then won the 3200 run in a personal best 10:27.05, distancing himself by 33.18 seconds over the runner-up finisher.
