Rain showers mix with snow as temperatures drop, cold weather expected for Monday

Rain showers will mix with snow showers through evening with the bulk of the precipitation south and east of Pittsburgh in the ridges and mountains. Then lake effect snow showers will develop overnight.

Road temperatures will be warm enough that roads shouldn’t be an issue locally during the evening hours. However, in the ridges and mountains, it turns colder faster this evening, watch for slippery travel and snow-covered roads in the higher elevations. Potential snowfall for the ridges and mountains through Monday is 1″-3″. For all other areas including Pittsburgh, temperatures will dip near freezing into Monday morning which could bring slick road conditions for some or a light slushy accumulation. Areas around

I-80 and north could see a coating of snow and up to 2″ in some isolated spots.

Monday will be very cold with a few snow showers or flurries early in the day; highs will only reach the mid-30s with wind chills in the 20s through the day.

More sunshine Tuesday with winds out of the south, the breeze will kick up with gusts between 15-20 mph. The southerly wind will push temperatures into the mid-40s. Wednesday and Thursday will be chilly with highs just making close to the 40-degree mark, but it will be dry and bright.

Temperatures rise back to the upper 40s for Friday and Saturday with highs pushing into the low 50s by Sunday.
