Perry Area Winter Swim wraps up season with fourth place finish at state meet

The Perry Area Winter Swim team competed Greater Iowa Swim League State Swim Meet on Saturday, March 11 at the Wellmark YMCA pool in downtown Des Moines.

PAWS had 95 swimmers for the regular season, held from November through March. Registration for the Perry Summer Swim Team opens online on April 1 and team suit fitting/in-person registration will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on April 29 at the McCreary Center.

PAWS, coached by Dana Stein and Weston Lucht, finished fourth out of 17 teams behind Spencer, Carroll and Denison. The team had 41 swimmers compete at the GISL State Meet.

PAWS swimmers set GISL records, including Sophia McDevitt in the 15-18 Girls 100 Individual Medley and Isabella Stein in the 9-10 Girls 500 Freestyle. Sophia McDevitt also received a High Point Award for 15-18 girls while Emily Dowd and Preston Kent received Sportsmanship Awards. Jim Dowd received a Volunteer Award.
