Perry dominates top out-of-state teams in back-to-back nights at Hoophall West

For the second night in the row at Hoophal West on Saturday, top-ranked Gilbert Perry showed no mercy to a top out-of-state opponent and dominated in every fashion, beating California's San Ysidro and guard Mikey Williams 90-66 to close out the five-day basketball event at Scottsdale Chaparral.

This time it wasn't one of Perry's 5 stars -- 6-foot-8 Koa Peat and 6-8 Cody Williams -- who emerged with the MVP basketball afterwards.

It was guard Barron Silsby, who had 20 points, making 7 of 9 shots, including 6 of 8 3-pointers. He also had three assists, three steals and just one turnovers in 29 minutes.

Still, Peat and Williams were their usual dominant selves on the court. Peat, ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the nation in the 2025 class by ESPN, had 16 points and 15 rebounds. Williams, a Colorado signee, who handles the ball, had 26 points on 10 of 19 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds. He also had four assists and two turnovers.

Mikey Williams, the 30th-ranked prospect in the nation by ESPN in the 2023 class, had 21 points on 8 of 17 shooting, 2 of 7 3-pointers. He had five assists, four rebounds and a block for San Ysidro.

J.J. Taylor led San Ysidro with 24 points and six rebounds.

On Friday, Perry defeated Bronx power Cardinal Hayes to go 2-0 in the showcase.

In other Saturday games:

Chandler's AZ Compass, the No. 1 ranked prep academy in the nation, according to MaxPreps, fell to Florida's IMG Academy 67-61. Jamie Kaiser Jr., led IMG with 18 points, followed by Bryson Tucker's 16 points and Amier Ali's 13.

Jordan Ross had 11 points to lead AZ Compass. Oregon-signee Mookie Cook was held to eight points, playing 17 minutes.

-All five starters scored in double figures for Corona (California) Centennial in a 72-53 rout of Las Vegas Bishop Gorman in a battle of Top 25 teams.

Centennial shot only 38% but pulled down 57 rebounds, dominating the glass. Bishop Gorman shot just 33% and had 27 fewer rebounds. Aaron McBride and Jared McCain each had 15 points to lead Centennial.

- Goodyear Millennium, in its only appearance in the event, fell to Georgia power Milton 61-46. Millennium freshman forward Cameron Holmes was held to four points and two rebounds, before fouling out. Millennium was led by Kingston Tosi's 13 points.

- Glendale Ironwood lost to Califfornia's Harvard-Westlake 76-49 in the early session Saturday. I'yar Shadowvine led Ironwood with 16 points. Harvard-Westlake had five players score in double figures, led by Brady Dunlap's 16 points. Dulap made 4 of 9 3-pointers in 15 minutes off the bench.

Koa Peat leads Perry past Bronx powerhouse

Gilbert Perry is unquestionably the No. 1 boys basketball team in Arizona and climbing the charts in the United States.

After Friday night's 78-47 rout of the Bronx's Cardinal Hayes (2-4) in the Hoophall West, there may be no limit to how far Perry can go this season.

This was Perry's first game of the five-day showcase and the last of five games played on Friday night.

Those who stuck around Scottsdale Chaparral High School's gym saw why 6-foot-8 Koa Peat is ranked among the top five sophomores in the nation. He had 21 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks and four assists.

Cody Williams, a Colorado signee, a 6-8 guard/forward who is a five-star in the 2023 class, had 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

"We played exceptionally well tonight," coach Sam Duane Jr., said in a text message. "We really defended well and moved the ball extremely well.

"Great win for our program against an elite team."

D'Andre Harrison added 12 points and five rebounds and Barron Silsby had 13 points for Perry. The Pumas, who built a 43-16 halftime lead, shot 66% from the field in the first half and 61% for the game. They made 50% of their 3-pointers (6 of 12) and held Cardinal Hayes to 38% shooting. Junior guard Ian Jackson, the No. 2 ranked prospect in the 2024 class by ESPN, had 23 points but seven turnovers for Cardinal Hayes.

"We really played at a different level," Duane said. "Cardinal Hayes is a very, very good team."

Perry (8-0), ranked 17th nationally by MaxPreps, returns to Chaparral on Saturday at 8 p.m., for the final game, going up against star guard Mikey Williams and San Ysidro of California. Williams is ranked 30th in the country in the 2023 class by ESPN.

California powerhouse Centennial takes on Las Vegas Bishop Gorman on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., in one of the headline games. Centennial is ranked No. 5 nationally and Bishop Gorman No. 9 by MaxPreps.

In earlier games Friday:

Chandler's AZ Compass Prep, ranked No. 1 in the nation by MaxPreps among prep academies that can recruit nationwide, rolled by Wasatch Academy of Utah 60-46. Mookie Cook, an Oregon signee, made 7 of 10 shots and had 17 points and four steals. Pharoah Compton added 11 points and Marcus Allen 10. AZ Compass missed all 14 3-pointer it took, but it dominated the paint and took advantage of 23 Wasatch turnovers, scoring 20 points off of them. AZ Compass Prep plays Saturday night at 6 against Florida giant IMG Academy

Phoenix St. Mary's, led by junior guard Styles Phipps' 25 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and three steals, beat rival Phoenix Brophy Prep 69-63, outscoring the Broncos 23-12 in the final quarter. Brophy was led by 6-6 wing Arman Madi (21 points) and junior guard Braeden Speed (19 points, six assists).

St. Mary's got back forward Seydou Tamboura, who gave the Knights a lift on the boards with 10 rebounds.
