Perry No. 1, VASJ joins top 10 in AP state football poll

Sep. 18—Perry maintained its No. 1 ranking in Division V, while VASJ joined the top 10 in D-III in this week's Associated Press state football poll.

The Pirates, who beat Geneva in Week 5 to improve to 5-0, received 16 of 24 votes in this week's voting by a statewide media panel. They host Lutheran West this week.

In Division II, Riverside (5-0) continued its placement in the fifth spot. The Beavers open Western Reserve Conference play against South this week.

Kenston (4-1) and VASJ (4-1) are tied for 10th in Division III, with Chardon (3-2) and Geneva (4-1) receiving votes. Kenston travels to Chardon this week, the Vikings play Erie McDowell at John Carroll, and the Eagles take on Edgewood.

Lake Cathoilc's 49-14 win over the Bombers earned them a 12th-place ranking in Division IV. The Cougars will try to improve on its 4-1 mark against Canton Central Catholic this week.

Kirtland is fourth in Division VI. The Hornets travel to Grand Valley this week.
