KEY ACTION: Accepted the retirements of two longtime Perry Township police officers.

Officer John Wellman, who's served as a Perry officer for 25 years, is slated to retire on Feb. 25.

Gary Fabynick, who's been a township officer for 13 years, is scheduled to depart on Monday.

OTHER ACTION: Agreed to award raises for all part-time personnel in the Perry Fire Department.

Hourly pay for part-time firefighter/paramedics is now $17.25, according to Fire Chief Larry Sedlock, while emergency medical technicians (EMT) are to earn $15.30 per hour, and "advanced" EMTs will net $15.55.

Trustees also:

  • Accepted an Ohio Department of Public Safety grant reimbursement amount of $2,500.

FOR YOUR INFO: Perry Rotary President Steve Toohey informed township officials that the organization has started a new cleanup drive for the area.

Operation: Clean Sweep is an effort to help eliminate littering, Toohey said, adding that multiple trash cans have been placed along Lincoln Way.

The drive is being funded by Aqua Ohio, Toohey said. The Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) is also a partner.
