Person fatally struck by Caltrain in Palo Alto Tuesday

(KRON) — One person was struck by a Caltrain and killed Tuesday in Palo Alto, according to Caltrain. The incident occurred on the tracks between California Avenue and San Antonio stations.

The person was on the tracks for “unknown reasons” according to Caltrain. A southbound #114 train approached and the person was struck and killed.

Emergency personnel are on the scene and trains were initially stopped in the incident area, according to Caltrain. However, trains were subsequently cleared to move through the incident area at a reduced speed of 10 mph.

The incident is being investigated by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Transit Police Bureau.

The cause of the collision has not been determined, according to officials. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office is working to confirm the identity of the victim.
