A Portsmouth man was killed Wednesday night during a two-vehicle accident in Chesapeake, and while one driver stayed at the scene, the other fled.

It happened around 9:22 p.m. near George Washington Highway North and Battery Park Road, in the city’s Deep Creek North area, police said in a news release.

Police were called about an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Medics tried to save the person, but the man died at the scene.

Officials identified the man Friday to be 26-year-old Yuonus Young.

Police said a person riding a motorcycle involved in the crash stayed at the scene, and they later found out a mid-size SUV was also involved but left the scene.

Police said that area of George Washington Highway North was closed for around three hours while the Chesapeake Police Crash Reconstruction Team investigated the crash.

No other injuries were reported.
