The California Highway Patrol reported that a two-vehicle collision happened at around 11:06 a.m. on Friday at Highway 138 and Lone Pine Canyon Road intersection.

The location is west of Interstate 15 and near the Mormon Rocks.

The CHP and San Bernardino County Fire responded to the scene, where they located a gold Nissan Altima sedan with major passenger-side damage and a white Toyota Sequoia SUV with major damage to the front end.

CHP officials believe the Nissan was heading west on Hwy. 138 and turning on Lone Pine Canyon Road, and the Toyota was heading west toward Interstate 15 when the Toyota struck the Nissan.

One person in the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Rescue crews requested two ground ambulances and one medical helicopter to transport an injured child riding in the Nissan.

The child sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Mercy Air No. 22 to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

The driver of the Toyota and a passenger suffered minor injuries and were transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital.

It was reported that five children were in the Toyota and one in the Nissan.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner's Division has not identified the deceased.

Additional details were limited, according to the California Highway Patrol San Bernardino Office investigating the incident.
