Person killed, Robeson County man charged in wake of fiery Highway 74 crash

SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — A Rowland man has been charged with misdemeanor death in the aftermath of a fiery crash last week along Highway 74 near Laurinburg.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol Master Trooper Robert Rogers told News13 on Wednesday that 65-year-old Billy Oxendine was charged, but couldn’t immediately say if he was arrested.

The victim has also not been identified.

Meanwhile, eastbound lanes of Highway 74 are expected to remain closed through Friday as crews make repairs to the road and bridge. The crash, which involved two tractor-trailers and a boat, caused a large fire under the bridge.

There is a detour in place for Highway 74 East. It goes from Highway 501 South to Old Maxton Road to Patterson Road to N. Rocky Ford Road to Highway 74 Business to Highway 74.
